In your mind, you’re still a teenager. Maybe your body is looking a bit worn, but it’s what’s inside that counts, right? Well… perhaps not. We bring you the top five signs that you are officially an adult. These should help you decide whether it is your mind or your body that is telling the truth.
1. You obsess over home furnishings
Do you get grumpy when someone just sits on the cushions on your sofa without considering fluffing them up when they stand up to leave the room? Perhaps, you have a mantelpiece containing ornaments ordered in a symmetrical fashion. Or maybe, just maybe, like me, you find yourself excited, jumping up and down clapping like a sea lion, when you spot something in a shop that would look “just perfect in the bathroom”. Having an obsession with home decor is definitely a sign that you are an adult.
2. You hardly ever have a lie in
Has your body clock set itself to automatically wake you up at 6.30 in the morning regardless of whether you have to be in work that day? That’s your body’s way of telling you that you’re an adult and have more important things to do than sleep! However, that’s not strictly true. Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for many health-related reasons. Having a comfortable bed will really help though, so why not check out a top awarded mattress? This could be a game changer for you and your lie ins!
3. Nights in are the new nights out
From board games with friends to dinner parties, has your life changed dramatically and you find yourself enjoying nights in more than nights out? Your curfew might have changed from 4am to 11.30pm. If this sounds like you, it’s another sign that you are moving further away from childhood and your teenage years.
4. Finances are important
Maybe you have financial concerns and have just created a spreadsheet to keep track of your expenses or perhaps you are saving up for a new car. If the days of being spontaneous with your money have gone, you are almost certainly classified as a fully-fledged grown up! The majority of adults will worry about bills at some points in their life. It’s an expectation, so shouldn’t come as a surprise.
5. Replacing a vacuum cleaner or washing machine is exciting
If discovering the latest model of your favorite vacuum cleaner (it’s not unusual to have one when you’re an official adult, you know?) is a stand out moment of your week, it’s definitely a clear sign that you are ageing. What’s more, finding new gadgets like kitchen timers (who knew there was such a wide range?), and jumping up and down when it arrives through the post or you finally find it in the store… that’s another sign!
Being an adult is not a negative thing. In fact, there are many benefits. Embrace all the changes you have made and, remember, you can have days off from ‘adulting’! (Apologies for using that term… but perhaps that makes me less of an adult by doing so!)
